ARB seminars scheduled in 22 locations
March 7th to April 25th, 2000.
The year 2000 marks the third year that the Comptroller's Property Tax Division (PTD) will conduct appraisal review board (ARB) training during March and April. ARB members must complete a Comptroller's training course before they can participate in ARB hearings.2000 ScheduleSection 5.041, Property Tax Code, requires the Comptroller to supervise a training course for ARB members. The Comptroller is to approve the curricula and training materials used in the course.
Those ARB members that attended a 1998 or 1999 ARB training course do not have to attend another training course in 2000. The certificate issued in those years is proof of completing the requirement for those ARB members. Any ARB member that attended a course in a previous year may attend this year for review, if he or she so chooses.
The 2000 course will be similar to the preceding years and will focus on acquainting ARB members with their responsibilities, Property Tax Code requirements, and court decisions. The Comptroller's Appraisal Review Board Manual will serve as the course text, and the Comptroller's PTD staff will teach the required training course.
The PTD has scheduled 22 locations for the course throughout the state. The PTD anticipates that fewer ARB members will be attending, since many members have completed the training.RegistrationA complete listing of the seminar dates is in this issue. The regional locations should make the course accessible to ARB members. Most of the seminars will be held at regional education service centers. Each one-day seminar will begin at 9:00 a.m. to accommodate persons who have to travel. Attendees will be on their own for lunch. Each seminar will conclude around 4:00 that afternoon.
Persons planning to attend an ARB seminar will need to download and print the registration form.* A $10 registration fee is required, to be paid in advance of the seminar. Meeting room size limits attendance at each seminar to about 100, so register early. The registration deadline for all seminar locations is February 15, 2000.
The seminars are also open to taxpayers and appraisal district staff. ARB members, however, will receive priority at registration. Others will be registered on a first-come, first-serve basis as room size permits.
If the appraisal district board of directors has not appointed all ARB members by the registration deadline, simply write "To Be Appointed" in the space for the ARB member's name.
