Appraisal Review Board Training

Reminder to Register for 2003 Comptroller’s Seminars

During March and April, the Comptroller’s Property Tax Division (PTD) will conduct appraisal review board (ARB) training seminars in 22 locations. ARB members must complete a Comptroller’s training course before they can participate in ARB hearings.

Section 5.041, Property Tax Code, requires the Comptroller to supervise a training course for ARB members. Those ARB members that have attended a Comptroller's ARB training course do not have to attend another training course in 2003. The certificate issued in previous years is proof of completing the requirement for those ARB members. Any ARB member that attended a course in a previous year may attend this year for review, if he or she so chooses.

The 2003 course will be similar to the preceding years and will focus on acquainting ARB members with their responsibilities, Property Tax Code requirements, and court decisions. The Comptroller’s Appraisal Review Board Manual will serve as the course text, and the Comptroller’s PTD staff will teach the required training course.

A complete listing of the 22 seminar dates and locations appears below. Each one-day seminar will begin at 9:00 a.m. Attendees will be on their own for lunch. Each seminar will conclude around 4:00 that afternoon.

Registration

Everyone planning to attend an ARB seminar needs to complete the registration form. This form is a PDF file. If you do not already have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you will need to download the latest version to view and print the form.

The $10 registration fee must be paid in advance of the seminar. The registration deadline for all seminars was February 17, 2003. PTD will accept late registrations as space permits.

The seminars are also open to taxpayers and appraisal district staff. ARB members, however, will receive priority at registration. Others will be registered on a first-come, first-serve basis as room size permits.

If the appraisal district board of directors has not appointed all ARB members by the registration deadline, simply write “To Be Appointed” in the space for the ARB member’s name.
