    Comptroller's PTD Releases 2000 Edition
The Comptroller's Property Tax Division (PTD) has available the 2000 edition of the Field Appraiser's Guide. The PTD has mailed each county appraisal district a copy of the new edition.

The Guide contains information on Category A (single-family residences), Category C (vacant lots), Category D (rural real estate) and Category L1 (commercial personal property). The PTD publishes the Guide from information gathered from appraisal districts, other states, appraisal literature, professional appraisers and market research.

The Guide assists PTD staff in performing property appraisals more efficiently and with greater accuracy. The Guide should be used by others for information purposes only. The PTD develops the Guide specifically for its use and requires its staff to develop local modifiers whenever possible. The PTD does not recommend that county appraisal districts use these schedules. Each district should develop its own schedules using local information.

The Guide is available for purchase by sending a check or money order for $10 to State Comptroller of Public Accounts, Property Tax Division, P. O. Box 13528, Austin, Texas 78711-3528. The Guide will be available on the agency's Web page at http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/proptax/proptax.html.

Send questions about the Guide, its use or schedules, by e-mail to Mike Murillo, at mike.murillo@cpa.state.tx.us or by calling 1-800-252-9121, ext. 5-9836. In Austin, please call 512/305-9836.
