Permanent University Fund Lands - 2003

The Permanent University Fund (PUF) provides money for the maintenance and support of the University of Texas, Texas A&M University and most of their branch campuses. The fund owns more than 2 million acres located in 22 counties.

This land was exempt from property taxation until 1930, when Texas voters approved Texas Constitution Article VII, Section 16(a). Since that time, the state has paid county taxes on the land.

In 2003, the total taxable value of PUF land was $238,547,236. The state paid $1,548,164 in county taxes on that land.
