Enhanced Web Tools Available
As part of the Comptroller's ongoing effort to simplify tax reporting, several new taxpayer tools have been added to the crude oil and natural gas Web inquiry system to help taxpayers reconcile reporting periods.
Two new reporting tools were added to the Public Information section under the Lease Search heading:
- "Type 05 Savings" - provides a period-by-period breakdown of reported data for high-cost gas exemptions, enabling taxpayers to analyze the calculation of accumulated savings for each exemption.
- "Leases Subject 10% Penalty" - lists every high-cost gas lease that has been assessed a 10% penalty for one or more periods.
In addition, the Data Changes report now provides more detailed information. Taxpayers can view the postmark date and document locator number (DLN) of the data-changed report, which makes it easier to identify reporting discrepancies. The data-change report also can be sorted by data-change messages and by DLNs.
