Purchaser: Pharmaceutical Companies Program: Charity programs
Description: Pharmaceutical companies may provide assistance for the purchase of some of their products. For example, some companies have patient assistance and compassionate care programs. These programs provide medicines at nominal cost to eligible, financially disadvantaged patients for some prescriptions. Others may give hospitals infant formula for new mothers.
A partial survey of the industry indicates that pharmaceutical companies provided an estimated $12.5 million in charitable care in 1998.
