Purchaser: Other state agencies Program: Medicaid Description: The Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (DPRS), Texas Rehabilitation Commission (TRC) and the Texas Interagency Council on Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) also purchased Medicaid services in 1998.
Many of the children in foster care under state custody through DPRS were eligible for Medicaid. The agency purchased more than $72 million in Medicaid-eligible services, especially targeted case management, for these children in 1998.
Case management is a process to assist people with specific health care needs to receive cost-effective and beneficial services by designing a plan for their medical or therapeutic care. Targeted case management refers to specific types of case management services authorized under the federal Medicaid program.
Some of the clients receiving rehabilitative services from TRC also qualified for Medicaidmore than $3.7 million in fiscal 1998.
Some of the young children receiving developmental services from ECI qualified for Medicaidnearly $1.6 million in fiscal 1998.
