Uniform Group Insurance Plan

Description:The Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) administers the Texas Employees Uniform Group Insurance Program for the employees and retirees of state agencies and state higher education institutions. This program does not include employees at the University of Texas and Texas A&M University systems, which maintain their own group health insurance programs.

Contributions from state appropriations and other funds of state agencies, universities and colleges finance the total cost of the basic life and health coverage for all active and retired state employees.

These contributions also finance 50 percent of the total cost of health coverage for the spouses and dependent children of all active and retired state employees enrolled in the plans. The remaining 50 percent is paid by the employee or retiree.
