Notice of Phishing Attempt
On July 12, several divisions in the Comptroller’s office were contacted about the validity of a taxpayer refund email purporting to be from the agency.
These emails are a phishing scam with a bogus claim that the recipient
is entitled to a tax refund or has had a tax appeal declined.
The phishing email uses a false comptroller email address and/or an embedded link that pretends to be the form taxpayers can use to correct the issue. Please be advised that these are not legitimate emails and should be deleted.
The Comptroller’s office does not initiate these types of information-seeking emails, and you should remain vigilant in protecting personal information.
