Certified Texas Purchaser (CTP):

The CTP test concentrates on the basics of purchasing in Texas. To be eligible for certification you must have one year purchasing experience and have completed the TPASS Basic and Advanced Purchasing classes or the equivalent (i.e., be currently certified as CPPB by NIGP or A.P.P. by ISM/NAPM). Remember, the test may cover anything in either of the courses and anything in the TPASS Procurement Manual.


Certified Texas Procurement Manager (CTPM):

To be eligible for this level of certification, you must have three years purchasing experience and have completed the TPASS Basic, Advanced and CNC classes or the equivalent (i.e., be currently certified as CPPO by NIGP or C.P.M. by ISM/NAPM). Remember, the test may cover anything in any of the prior courses and anything in the TPASS Procurement Manual.


Certification Testing

You may register to take a certification examination by completing a Testing Registration Form (PDF) and sending it to the Continuing and Extended Education Distance Education Center at the University of Texas at Austin. Contact Student Services at:

If you want to take the certification test at an Authorized Testing Center other than UT Austin, please contact the location and request that they supervise the test. If the location agrees to do so, complete the Testing Registration Form (PDF) with the applicable information and send the completed form to UT Austin. The UT Austin testing center will then mail them a copy of the test. Please allow adequate time for the exam to be forwarded to the requesting testing center. When your request for an examination has been processed, you will have 60 days to take the test.

Any additional testing sites other than those already approved by UT Austin must be approved in advanced by the Testing Supervisor at the Continuing & Extended Education Distance Center. You may request approval by phone (512) 232-5000 or in writing. Failure to make prior arrangements may result in a delay of your application. Also, testing sites outside of Austin may have additional testing fees.


Authorized Testing Centers

If you are in or near the Austin area, you will take the exams at the Distance Education Testing Center. Please contact the testing center for their hours at (512) 232-5000.

Examinees must present a photo identification at the time of testing.

Be sure to allow at least two (2) hours for testing.

Testing locations other than authorized TPASS/DEC centers must be approved in advance by the Testing Supervisor at the Distance Education Center.

Extension of Time

A one-time extension of 60 days is available for a fee of $50. The extension must be requested during the original 60 day enrollment period. To extend the deadline for your exam, please contact the DEC Student Services office at (512) 232-5000 or 1-888-232-4723.



Receiving Test Results

If testing in Austin, you will automatically receive your test results at the testing center. If testing at another facility, you will receive your test results approximately 10 to 12 business days via electronic mail and/or a post card from the testing center. Once the Tpass Training and Certification office receives your test actual test from the testing center, you will receive an official 'Exam Notice' from our office via email.


Repeating the Test

You may repeat the test any time after your initial test. The full fee for the test will be charged each time you have to re-test.
