Franchise Tax Public Service Announcement
Airdate: April 1, 2008

Setting: Walking in downtown Austin with the Capitol behind him

R.J. DeSilva: The rules on paying business tax in Texas have changed.

(B-roll of the Capitol, a Texas flag blowing in the wind and various shots downtown Austin)

Voice over: The Texas legislature expanded the types of businesses that are now subject to the franchise tax AND significantly changed how the tax is calculated. So if you do business in Texas and are not a sole proprietor or a general partnership of individuals, you may owe Texas franchise tax. To know for sure, check the Comptroller’s Web site at www.window.state.tx.us or call toll free at (800) 252-1381. But find out soon. The due date for reports is May 15.
