Texas Librarians Honor Comptroller Susan Combs
(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Susan Combs was recognized today for her groundbreaking report that analyzes academic achievement and cost-effective spending in Texas schools. She received the 2012 Texas Reference Source Award for the Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST) from the Texas Library Association’s Reference Round Table. The award recognizes an outstanding reference tool in Texas.
The FAST report was first released in December 2010 and updated in 2011. It provides extensive details on spending and academic progress in every school district in Texas.
“I’m honored by the recognition of the work we did on FAST,” Combs said. “It’s a wonderful interactive reference tool for anyone to see how schools or school districts compare to each other. And we also provide many examples of schools around Texas that are using innovative cost saving practices. FAST can help foster more dialogue on how campuses can look for cost-effective spending that helps get the best results in the classroom.”
The FAST report is updated annually and can be found at http://www.fastexas.org/.
