Comptroller Combs Introduces New Agency Communications Director

(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced today she has hired Lauren Willis as Communications Director for the Comptroller’s office.

Willis most recently served as Director of Public Affairs for Texas Railroad Commissioner David Porter, where she provided strategic communications counsel and acted as the primary spokesperson for the Commissioner. Previously Willis was a Vice President in the Public Affairs division of Edelman Southwest, where she was responsible for managing public affairs strategies and communication activities for LIVESTRONG and clients in the energy sector. Willis’ background also includes several years working in both the Texas House and Senate, handling media relations, constituent services and legislative policy before heading to Washington D.C. In Washington D.C. she worked for the Bush administration in communications roles at both the U.S. Department of Justice and the White House.

“We are excited to welcome Lauren to our team,” said Combs. “Her vast government background and experience with the media will prove helpful in keeping the public informed about the state’s economic progress. Lauren also shares my commitment to make state government more efficient, transparent and accountable.”

Willis has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas.
