Combs and Hull Team Up to Return Unclaimed Property
(CORSICANA) — Navarro County residents who think or hope they might have some money waiting to be claimed from the state’s Unclaimed Property List have a chance to search the list at an event that will be hosted by Navarro County Treasurer Frank Hull and Texas Comptroller Susan Combs.
Staff members from Hull’s office and Combs’ office will help people search for unclaimed property online, fill out claim forms and answer questions about the unclaimed property program from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, in the basement of the Navarro County Courthouse located at 300 West Third Avenue in Corsicana.
“The current balance in the state’s unclaimed property fund is around $2.2 billion,” Combs said. “That money belongs to Texans, and I know reclaiming it would make a difference to many people in these challenging economic times. Through events like this one with Treasurer Hull, we are reaching out to Texans and encouraging them to check the Unclaimed Property List often and claim their forgotten funds.”
The Comptroller estimates one in four Texans has money waiting to be claimed. Unclaimed property includes utility deposits or other refunds, insurance proceeds, mineral interest or royalty payments, dormant bank accounts and abandoned safe deposit box contents. To search for unclaimed property, visit the Comptroller’s unclaimed property website at www.ClaimItTexas.org or call (800) 654-FIND (3463).
Many people who do not wish to reclaim their money, possibly because it is only a small amount, have the opportunity to put their money to work for a good cause.
“Unclaimed property owners now have the option to donate all or part of their unclaimed money to the Texas Match the Promise Foundation, an organization created to provide matching scholarships to children enrolled in the Texas Tuition Promise Fund,” Combs said. “A new link on the Unclaimed Property Web page makes it easy to put your money to work for a child’s future.”
