Comptroller Susan Combs Announces Senior Staff Changes
(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Susan Combs today announced she has hired David White to be her new Senior Policy Advisor at the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Prior to founding Brazos Public Affairs, a government affairs firm, White worked on various local and statewide campaigns and policy issues.
Most recently he served as Political Director for Governor Rick Perry’s 2010 gubernatorial re-election.
White also worked in the Texas Legislature as Chief of Staff for State Rep. Wayne Christian. During his time there, White served as Rep. Christian's lead public policy advisor on several key committees, such as the House Committee on Regulated Industries, the House Committee on State Affairs and the Committee on Business and Industry.
“David will bring new, creative ideas based on a strong conservative public policy background,” Combs said. “He will help in our agency’s focus on saving taxpayer money, maximizing efficiency and effectiveness in state government and creation of private sector jobs. I am excited about his addition to the staff.”
While working in the Legislature, White served three years as State Chairman of Young Conservatives of Texas, a non-partisan conservative youth organization, comprising more than 250 members statewide. He remains an active leader at the grassroots level. In addition White also served as a consultant for the Republican Party of Texas. White holds a B.B.A in Finance from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Combs also announced that Sarah Whitley is leaving the agency July 1. Whitley most recently worked as Chief of Staff. Whitley is interested in building a career as a consultant and in having time to pursue private interests.
“I salute and thank Sarah Whitley for her outstanding work at the Comptroller’s office and for her commitment to the people of Texas. She has worked with me for 10 years and her service has been outstanding. Sarah is a trusted friend and advisor and will remain so as we move forward,” Combs said.
In his new position as Senior Policy Advisor to the Comptroller, White will advise the Comptroller on state issues and agency policy, as well as serve as the agency’s external liaison officer with associations, business groups, advocacy organizations and business leaders around the state. In addition White will be involved in crafting public policy and will serve as a driving force on issues such as economic development, education and public outreach.
White will replace Whitley, and staff changes take effect June 27th.
