Comptroller’s Annual HUB Expo Promotes State Procurement Connections
(AUSTIN) — Woman- and minority-owned businesses can expand their opportunities to do business with Texas government at the state Comptroller’s annual HUB Expo June 27 in Austin.
The day-long event gives Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs) opportunities to network with state agency purchasers and state contractors seeking business partnerships with HUBs. Workshops will give businesses valuable tips on submitting bids that win state contracts; explore methods to obtain working capital; and preview future contracting opportunities in construction, information technology, professional services and procurement of goods and supplies.
“Becoming certified as a HUB gives woman-and minority-owned businesses a powerful advantage in the Texas procurement process,” said Texas Comptroller Susan Combs. “State agencies are required to work with HUBs whenever possible, and I strongly encourage HUBs to explore the many opportunities to increase your business through state contracts.”
In fiscal 2010, 16,495 businesses were certified in the Statewide HUB Program, which is part of the Comptroller’s state procurement division. HUBs were awarded state contracts valued at $2.1 billion.
The Expo takes place at the Crowne Plaza Austin Hotel, 6121 N. IH 35, from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration ends Friday, June 17. For registration information and a complete agenda of Expo activities, visit www.window.state.tx.us/procurement/hubexpo/.
