Texas: Number One for Big Business

In its May 5, 2008 issue, Fortune magazine revealed its newest “Fortune 500” list – an annual ranking of America’s largest corporations. More Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Texas than in any other state. Texas and New York have traded places since 2007, when New York had headquarters for 57 of these major corporations, and Texas was home to 56.

  1. Texas has the most, with 58 Fortune 500 companies.
  2. New York has 55 Fortune 500 companies.
  3. California has 52 Fortune 500 companies.
  4. Illinois has 33 Fortune 500 companies.
  5. Ohio has 28 Fortune 500 companies.
  6. Pennsylvania has 25 Fortune 500 companies.
  7. New Jersey has 23 Fortune 500 companies.
  8. Michigan has 22 Fortune 500 companies.
  9. Minnesota has 19 Fortune 500 companies.
  10. Virginia has 19 Fortune 500 companies.
