Erosion of the Texas Gulf Coast
There are 12 counties that make up the Texas' gulf coastline. From north to south, the coastal counties are:
- Jefferson
- Chambers
- Galveston
- Brazoria
- Matagorda
- Calhoun
- Aransas
- Nueces
- Kleberg
- Kenedy
- Willacy
- Cameron
Of these counties, Calhoun is the only county with a predominantly stable coast, although there is some erosion on the north and south edges of the county. Aransas county has erosion on about 50% of its coast.
The Nueces county coast is about 30% stable.
While there is no data for Kenedy and most of the Kleberg coast, the rest are seeing erosion on at least 80% of their coastlines.
In Jefferson, Chambers, Brazoria and Wallacy counties, the entire coastline is eroding.
