ADA Beverly Mathews receives prosecution award from Comptroller Susan Combs
On May 25th, 2010, Travis County ADA Beverly Mathews received the "Comptroller's Award for Excellence in Prosecution” from Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Susan Combs. Beverly is the first recipient of the award, which is reserved for a prosecutor who has handled felony tax and tax-related criminal cases with excellence over an extended period of time.
Beverly prosecuted cases investigated by the Comptroller’s Criminal Investigation Division for over five years during her tenure in the Public Integrity Unit of the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. Travis County receives a high number of tax-fraud cases from the Comptroller’s office due to a number of statewide and concurrent venue provisions in the Tax Code, and because venue lies in Travis County when fraudulent returns are filed with the Comptroller.
“Beverly represented the State in an outstanding manner. The expertise, tenacity, and commitment Beverly demonstrated with these complex cases helped protect the State's revenue and deter others contemplating similar conduct. As Comptroller, and as a former prosecutor, it's been my pleasure to recognize Beverly with this award.”
